Hospice volunteers are specially trained individuals who support the patient in a variety of ways. Our Volunteers are our pride providing special kind of care with compassion to our patients and families and respite care to caregivers. Every day, our volunteers make a difference in the lives of so many people. Whether they offer a listening ear to patients and families, assist with daily household activities for patients, provide grief support, serve as a companion to loved ones or share their personal expertise to help promote hospice care, the time given to Ambient Hospice families by our volunteers can be the most rewarding and unforgettable experiences of their lives.
Hospice volunteers provide a wide range of support for patients and their families. This can be just sitting and visiting with people, taking walks, writing letters together, or listening to music. As a volunteer, you’ll offer whatever help you can to patients and their families.
Duties as a hospice volunteer
One important way that volunteers can make a difference is by providing support to the family and friends who are losing their loved ones. Whether you’re helping out with grocery shopping or taking care of the family pet, you will have an opportunity to help not just our patients, but their loved ones too.
Our Requirements to be a hospice volunteer?
Volunteers are required to be physically fit or use appropriate adaptive devices to meet the essential duties of volunteering. Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress and demonstrate emotional stability. While it is common for those who have recently lost a loved one in hospice to desire to volunteer, we recommend newly bereaved volunteers to wait a period of time before volunteering at the bedside. Volunteers are required to complete our hospice training program before providing services to our patient’s and family.
